Norman Manea’s website is a testament to the profound influence and prolific output of this Romanian writer and public intellectual, currently residing in New York City. In our work on the site, we aimed to create a digital space that encapsulates the breadth and depth of Manea’s literary contributions.

The website showcases the diversity of Manea’s writing, which includes novels, essays, and short prose. A central theme of his work is the individual destiny in extreme situations, such as the Holocaust, communist dictatorship, and exile​1​. This thematic focus required us to develop a website design and layout that respected the gravity and significance of these subjects while also highlighting the humanity and resilience present in Manea’s works.

In addition, the website serves as a platform for Manea’s frequent reviews and essays about Romanian and foreign writers, as well as contemporary literary and political issues. This aspect of the site allowed us to create a dynamic, ever-evolving space that not only celebrates Manea’s own work but also his engagements with wider literary and political discourses​1​.
